First half:

The final game of the Northern Region competition was fittingly contested by the two unbeaten teams, Waikato & Bay of Plenty.

Bay of Plenty started the game strongly mounting a number of attacks on the Waikato line, though tenacious defence from the Waikato boys held them at bay. Waikato then started to gain possession and started to build some phases. Then in the eighth minute as Waikato was launching an attack, an intercept by the Bay of Plenty midfield led to the first try of the game.

Waikato then enjoyed territory and possession for a considerable period of the half, though unrewarded until the 21st minute. Blake Boli secured a turnover at a ruck and the Bay were penalised for hands in the ruck. Penalty kicked by Te Raina Richards-Coxhead.

From the restart Waikato started to mount further pressure on the Bay of Plenty line and in the 25th minute Waikato won the ball from a Bay lineout, the ball was quickly spread wide to Jason Thomasen who broke the line then passed to Aaron Crow to sprint 40 metres to score in the corner. Try converted by Te Raina Richards-Coxhead.

Right on half time Waikato were penalised for not releasing the tackled player. Penalty converted.

Halftime Score:  Waikato: 10     Bay of Plenty 8

Second half:

The Bay turned with a stiff breeze at their backs, but Waikato made the stronger start to the half. Nine minutes into the half Waikato were awarded a free kick which was quickly taken by Tallis Karaitiana, who hit it up and set up a ruck, from the ruck the backs received quick ball and Bryn Gatland took the gap then side steeped the full back to score next to the post. Try converted by Te Raina Richards-Coxhead

The game then ebbed and flowed and lost a bit of momentum as both teams suffered a few injuries. Then in the 30th minute Waikato mounted another attack on the Bay of Plenty line in their pursuit to close out the game. After a number of attacking phases Tallis Karaitiana pick and drove from a ruck and set up a ruck close to the line. Mitch Jacobson then picked up the ball and with the support of his forwards drove over the line to score. Try converted by Te Raina Richards-Coxhead.

By this time the game, and the Northern Region Tournament title was secure, though the Bay of Plenty team never gave up trying and ended up scoring a converted try in the 34th minute.
