First half:

The game started off slowly as both teams where feeling each other out for the first 20 minutes  and the game seemed to go backwards and forwards with Waikato building the dominance. Waikato then opened the scoring with the ball going through the backs and Navi Sikivou scoring in the corner, converted by Nate George. Counties came back with a penalty. George was strong on line kicks which enabled Waikato to build on some very strong forward play resulting in a quick turn over ball out to second five Josh Fa’agalu, who broke through a few tackles to score under the uprights, converted by George. With time closing on half time George slotted a penalty to take the score out to a 17-3 lead.

Second half:

The second half was starting similar to the first but once again Waikato forwards where taking control with Adam Burn breaking off the back of a scrum before off loading to Troy Lobendahn 25 metres out to run strongly, breaking tackles on his way to score under the posts. George converted. Midway through the half Counties started to put a few phases together resulting in very good try in the corner. Unfortunately that was all Counties had as the flood gates opened with another try to Sikivou and George Doig going over in the corner with the last try by Jacob Procter down the right hand side of the field, taking the score out to a 41-8 to Waikato.

Outstanding Players/Moments in the Match:

Sonny Al’fa’alongo very good in line out and kick off receiving, Eli Atkins in the rucks and mauls and Nate George dominating in general play.
