First half:

The match started as a kicking duel, and once things got back on track Otago was rewarded with a penalty kick. Waikato bounced straight back with the forwards building strongly with a rolling maul resulting Sefo Setefhano going over the line, converted by Kane Adams. Glen Robertson had some strong runs through the midfield, breaking Otago’s defence line and building the pressure only to be lost by Waikatos own mistakes. Otago came back with a penalty and a converted try, but Waikato where not finished yet. Once again the forwards took the ball up field and after a passage of play camped on Otagos line Johnny Mason scored on the stroke of halftime, converted by Adams.

Second half:

A slow start to second half saw the game develop into a real arm wrestle with momentum swinging backwards and forwards . Adams slotted another penalty but that’s where the points ended for the day for Waikato. Even though both teams defence was strong , Otago finished off the match with a 50m intercept try which took the game out of Waikato's reach.

Outstanding Players/Moments in the Match:

Once again Eli Atkins put his hand up on defence and Daniel Ross had some busting runs, along with fellow prop Johnny Mason. Glen Robertson was strong in midfield and Jacob Procter ran well from fullback.
