On September the 23rd The NZ Harlequins Under 17 team hosted the New Zealand AreaSchools. The New Zealand Area Schools is a team that is driven by the New Zealand Rugby Foundation and is made up of the best players from all the area schools around the country. It is a great opportunity for these boys from rural areas to play elite rugby. This game is a traditional fixture which is played annually.
The match was played in inclement weather, but that didn’t hamper the Quins willingness to run the ball at every opportunity.
Their flamboyant approach resulted in a very one sided fixture with the Quins blowing out to a 29-3 victory.
The Quins had 78% of possession and 82% of territory and if conditions were better the score line could have been a lot higher.
Outstanding performers were captain and Number 8 Karl Rohlarch(St Peter’s), lock Meli Lacanivalu(CCNZ), Kale Pomare(Forest View) and centre Tane Mita(Cambridge High).
