Otorohanga will look to preserve their unbeaten start to the season when they travel to Hamilton Old Boys this weekend for a top of the table clash.

Competition leaders Otorohanga enter round six of Waikato premier division club rugby with a perfect five-from-five record.

But coach James White is not getting ahead of himself after his teams fast start to the season.

“It has been a good start but there is a long way to go, we are just taking it a game at a time.”

White said his team was looking forward to facing Hamilton Old Boys on Saturday but said “we need to focus on our own jobs before worrying about the opposition”.

Meanwhile Hamilton Old Boys have recorded four convincing wins in a row, after an opening round loss to Melville, and sit two points behind Otorohanga in second place.

Their coach John Walters is excited about the challenge of facing the current benchmark of the competition.

“We like playing Otorohanga, it is always a good battle and it will be good to test ourselves against the top of the table side.

“They have a pretty good forward pack so we are expecting a good battle up front and we will need to deny ball to their outside backs.”

The game promises to be a matchup of high powered offence versus staunch defence.

Hamilton Old Boys have the best attacking record in the competition so far scoring 210 points – nearly twice as many as Otorohanga. But Otorohanga holds the best defensive record conceding just 43 points.

The match kicks off at 2.45pm at Fred Jones Park.
