Drop Goals:
The first half was a fairly lacklustre affair with Waikato dominating proceedings but unable to capitalise on the mountain of possession they obtained. Too many handling errors and a lack of discipline cost them at vital times and whilst in good field position. An early Wharenui Hawera penalty gave Waikato a 3-0 lead and that was followed up with a Try to Mark Tyrell in the 20th minute after some good pick and go action by the forwards. However it was then that the ill discipline and poor handling cost Waikato. North Harbour rallied to score a Penalty in the 25th minute followed swiftly by a kick and chase try in the 27th minute after a handling error by Waikato.
The second half was similar to the first half – with Waikato dominating their opposition but continuing to allow them to remain in the game by way of incessant infringing and handling errors. The game was still locked up at 10 apiece after 15 minutes when the Waikato backs strung a good move together to put Wing Andrew Brown over in the right hand corner. This seemed to kick start the Waikato team and they began to play to their potential. They wrapped things up 10 minutes later – again after some good handling for Fullback Joseph Webber to scythe through the flimsy North Harbour defence to score in the right hand corner.
Alex Suttie and Jacob Skeen were strong at lineout time. Nathan Sunde, Kane Jacobson and Adam Burn toiled away in the loose. Joseph Webber was solid at Fullback.
