This was a hard physical contest right form the first whistle. Both teams went hammer and tong at each other, no quarter was given. The Auckland U20's had the size advantage and tried to out muscle the Waikato U20's at set piece and in the loose ball.
The Waikato U20's never took a step back and kept knocking them over and contesting the ball, though on occasions we made it hard for ourselves by letting the Auckland U20's run too far before making the tackle.
The Waikato U20's continued to challenge and attack whenever the opportunity arose and could have had more points if the final pass had gone to hand. The last twenty minutes of the game saw Auckland U20's continue to attack the Waikato U20's line but we kept knocking them over and applying pressure which resulted in Auckland U20 mistakes.
This was truly a team effort where every member of the Waikato U20 gave 150% and put their bodies on the line which resulted in a fine win. Waikato U20's have not beaten Auckland since this competition began in 2006. Waikato U20's next game is against Canterbury U20 at Fred Jones Park in two weeks time at 12.00pm.
Fulltime Score: Waikato U20 22 - Auckland U20 - 14
