The home team started strongly by taking the game to the visitors. Hard on attack for large parts of the first half and continually attacking the Canterbury line, in n attempt to turn applied pressure into points. Full credit to Canterbury they defended strongly preventing the home team from scoring a well deserved try and only allowing Kane Adams the luxury of putting points on the board from the visitors infringing. Waikato U20's worked hard in the loose play and contested well in the line outs, but were out muscled in the scrum where Canterbury had an obvious edge.  Unfortunately this inhibited the Waikato back line from getting on the attacking foot and found themselves under pressure from their opposites. The home team let in a soft try prior to half time but were only trailing by 3 points after a well contested first half.

The second half saw the bigger Canterbury pack continue to dominate the scrum and territory.   The Waikato U20's continued to contest and defend well but to much turned over ball at the breakdown gave the visitors a better platform to attack from. Unfortunately the home team were unable to breakout of their own half with 5 minutes to go and found themselves unable to get that elusive wining try. This was a hard physical encounter where the home side had their chances but were unable to convert into a win.  Next week the Waikato U20's finish their campaign with a game against Wellington U21 at Taihape.

Fulltime Score:  Waikato U20 20 - Canterbury U21 26
