Unfortunately this was not a good start to the U20 Northern Region competition. After two very classy warm up games resulting in big wins, this weekend saw the Waikato U20 team start slow with very little accuracy and beaten in the set piece and at the breakdown.
The Counties 15 showed more determination and physicality during the game and put the Waikato U20 team to task through out. On occasions where the Waikato pack managed to get into the opposition half costly errors or poor judgement cost them the chance of clawing back into the game.
At times the visitors seemed to be constantly defending with very little ball to create opportunities and put points on the board. On a positive note the team improved late in the second half and showed once they lift their intensity and concentration level that they can put together some very good attacking opportunities.
The visitors one on one defence was very good closing down the home team's ability to put more points on the board, Next weekend the Waikato U20's are home to North Harbour at Hamilton Old Boys.
