Waikato Development To Strong For Taranaki

The Waikato Development side turned on an impressive display of wet weather rugby to easily account for Taranaki 58 – 11.
In their only warm up game before the start of competition next week Waikato outscored Taranaki eight tries to one.
Waikato were always in control, setting a strong platform up front and allowing the backs to glide across the greasy surface at times with relative ease. A five try haul in the opening 40 minutes, highlighted by a brace from hooker Vern Kamo, gave Waikato plenty of go forward while the backs were able at times to venture through some weak defence.
With continuous rain and heavy conditions the game lost some of its structure early in the second half with both sides struggling to put moves together.
Waikato had to wait until 15 minutes from the end to add to their tally with 3 late tries. Taranaki’s only try came from a charge down late in the game.
Waikato -Vern Kamo 2, Matt Blain, Henry Speight, Phil Mourits, Lionel Wairau, Eddie Uele, Frank Halai tries Maurice Stone 4 Cons, 1pen 1 drop goal, Tyler Leith 2 ConsTaranaki – Luke Harvey Try, Cody Rei 2 pen.
